Science - What do plants grow from?

We have looked at our prior knowledge of plants and seeds and what they need to grow. We then explored 2 seeds - one had been soaked in water. We were able to notice the changes to this seed and peel off the seed coat. We were then able to find out what this layer was for and why do seeds have it.
